Worship

We are excited about worship at Highland Covenant Church! Through vibrant singing, friendly welcome, reflective prayer, and challenging messages, we welcome all who would like to know more about the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

We gather for worship together at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. This is followed by Sunday School for all ages at 11:00 a.m. At Highland our worship acknowledges that God is holy, awesome, and entirely “other” than us, but is also close, revealed to us, and knows us by name. This leads to worship that has both formal and informal elements, music and prayers from different times and in different forms. We draw on the gifts of our people and seek to include as many as possible in leading the congregation.

A typical worship time includes a time of greeting, a call to worship, some singing and prayer, readings from the Bible, time with the children, a sermon, and time for prayer. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

Children and Worship

Children are an essential part of the church, and are always welcome in worship. Children learn to worship by watching and imitating others, and add a necessary voice and presence to our community. To assist children and parents during the morning service, we offer the following:

Nursery Care – Loving care is provided for infants and toddlers during morning worship and Sunday School. The nursery is located at the bottom of the stairs located just outside the sanctuary.

Worship Bags – Colored pencils and other activities to help children when it might be difficult to focus or follow the worship service.

Kid’s Worship Bulletins – Designed to follow the day’s themes and scriptures, these offer an interactive way to engage children in worship.

Children’s Moment – Most worship services include a time when children go forward to participate in a bible story or lesson.

Children’s Church – After the Children’s Moment, interested children from age 3 to 2nd grade are escorted to the children's worship room upstairs or room 103 on the lower level of the building, depending upon their age, for stories and crafts designed to connect with the Sunday School lesson of the day.
